2008 UP Lantern Parade








Diliman, Quezon City--- What a way to end the UP Centennial Christmas Celebration than to end it with a parade of colorful lanterns topped off with a splendid fireworks display!
Thousands of students and visitors crowded the streets of UP Diliman yesterday as they watched the annual lanterns being paraded around the academic oval.

"Masaya kasi manood ng lantern parade...( it's fun to watch the Lantern Parade)" claimed one of the Alumni of CSSP.
Colorful lanterns in all shapes and sizes with hundreds of students participating in the event.Among the lanterns were the Carabao lantern made by the UP College of Agriculture, the interesting Landcape Puzzle of the College of Architecture, and the Robo Lantern of the College of Mass Communication.




Some colleges even have their own marching bands, some in colorful costumes, others have their own gimiks of attracting attentions.


"Kanya kanyang style yan! ( Each has their own style!)" says Gina, a College of Arts and Letters student.


The UP Pep Squad certainly didn't pass up the chance to wow the audience with their cheers and acrobatic stunts.Various constituents of UP also attended the event, where the Aguila Lantern of UP Mindanao garnered much attention.


After the lantern parade, students and visitors alike were treated with a marvelous diplay of fireworks lasting for about 15 minutes, ending the light show with a flash of light sprinkling like dust under the night sky."

Last Centennial Lecture



UP Diliman--- The last of the UP Centennial Lecture Series ended after the lat lecture was held in the UP College of Music on Dec. 5.


Dr. Ramon P. Santos delivered his lecture entitled, "THe UP and the Cultivate Filipino: In Search of a Spirit-Self in a Culture of Humanism and Aesthetic Judgment," where he discussed how culture affects the University in more ways than one.


After the lecture, Prof. Santos trated his audience with a unique tribal music that he composed.

UP Pailaw 2008


UP Diliman- UP opened its Centennial Christmas Celebration with a bang by lighting up its colorful christmas lights around the campus on Dec. 2.
The event started with a lighting ceremony, followed by the merry sounds played by the UP Orchestra and the UP Band.
Students and visitors were treated to a night filled with music and lights.
The Pailaw is said to be the start of UP's yearly Christmsas celebration usually held at the very first day of December.
